Can a drone fly near McGhee Tyson Airport?
Only with FAA approval. The Metropolitan Knoxville Airport Authority says flight within five nautical miles of McGhee Tyson or Knoxville Downtown Island Airport “falls within controlled airspace and requires FAA approval,” and that “Approval may only be gained through the FAA.”
Can a drone fly over Neyland Stadium on game day?
No. The FAA says federal law “restricts UAS from flying at or below 3,000 AGL within a 3 nautical mile radius of any stadium” seating 30,000 or more during NCAA Division I football games, from one hour before the game until one hour after it ends.
Can drones fly in the Great Smoky Mountains?
Not inside the national park. The National Park Service prohibits “the launching, landing, or operation of unmanned aircraft” on park lands, and WBIR reports the ban has been in effect since June 2014.
